The beginning of living in Georgia

Top Things about living in Georgia
#Georgia October is like Oregon July
#The Historical houses, plantations, battle sites, etc.
#There is always a festival or event, lots of activities to go do
#NASCAR races are called on the radio
#New recreation and dining to explore
#The ocean water is warm

Worst things about living in Georgia
#Of course it is far from most of our family and friends
#Sunday/Monday night football doesn't get over until almost mid-night, so if they are both good games it is a bad way to start the week. And on that note, Sunday football doesn't start until 1:00 pm.
#Austin having to look for a job
#The clothes don't come in size small, at least I haven't found them in that size.
#The food is fried, and then fried again. Eating healthy is not as easy.

We arrived in Savannah Wednesday night and got into the company provided furnished apartment. It is a very nice apartment, but it still takes a lot of activity to move into a place. We went to Wal-mart so many times that MS Money asked if we wanted to set up a recurring payment. They provided very nice micro fiber couches, oh yeah they are white, so that is fun with 2 black pets. Our cat thankfully stays off of counters, but there is no way we can keep her off the couch.
The view out the apartment windows is to the smaller pool and at the bottom of the steps is a wooded area. We took some pictures so you could get an idea of the area.

We went house hunting on Saturday and found another good possibility. We are in the decision phase of making sure it meets all our needs. Our top pic as of now is only 5 miles to the mill. My commute would be 5 minutes. That is crazy for working at a mill!

For some reason we were thinking things would slow down when we got here, but we haven't been home one night. We went out with people from the mill, went to watch our friend's girls play soccer and we knew other people there too randomly. It is a small town feel where you see people you know everywhere. We went to the seafood festival today after unpacking this morning. It was OK, all the seafood was fried so that was disappointing for Austin. The county fair starts tomorrow and we will go to that event as well.
It will take quit a while to feel settles, but for the most part things are going very well here.

Janelle showing off the mini-van we rented to fit all the suitcases and the pets.

Bo enjoying the fact that he can pretend he is a real boy and sit in his own seat in the rental van.

The living area, Austin in the back ground getting the computer set up.

Looking into the kitchen and a good shot of the white furniture.

The pool in our area and the window to our apartment. We are on the second floor, the screen porch which is also the window out of our bedroom is being blocked by the palm tree, then to the right of that is our living room window, then the next window to the right that sticks out just a bit is Rajah's bedroom window. We were suppose to get a 1 bedroom furnished apartment but they only had 2 bedroom units. So we have a 2 bedroom unit but only 1 is furnished. The second is very useful, in the walk in closet is Rajah's litter box and food area, then in the room we are storing empty suitcases and other things.

Janelle in the "small" pool. Our apartment is in the back of the complex, the main pool and fitness area is at the entrance so they have a smaller pool and fitness area in the back. It is much less busy so it is actually nice to be by the smaller area.

Austin and Bo with the woods in the back ground. The trees here are only about 40' tall but they are much more dense.

This is driving down a busy road in Savannah, we both love the large live oak trees around that canopy the streets. There were so many incredible houses downtown as well, we are hoping to go on a tour of some soon.

Austin enjoying a drink from Baibry's the local coffee shop in Rincon, the red mini-van is ours for the time being, don't be jealous.

We're Here

After a 2 hour car ride, a night at my sister and Eric's house, a 4.5 hour plane ride, 1.5 hours in pet checks to make sure we could accept them in Atlanta, a night in a hotel room, and 4 more hours in a rental car...Austin, me, Bo and Rajah all made it to Savannah. We are staying in a furnished apartment with the 2 suitcases each checked on the plane for the next 2 months. We did go to Wal-Mart first thing and spend ~$400 in household needs like a cat litter box and other necessities we didn't feel we could pack. We are VERY busy trying to get settled and hopefully after this weekend we will be and I can upload some pics on Sunday.
We were very pleased with the weather here, it is much hotter than either of us could have imagined. We left for dinner last night at 8:00pm and it was so hard not to take a coat. When we got in the car we had to turn on the AC and the temperature was in the upper 70's. It will take a while for us to learn to expect heat when you walk outside.
Today was my first day at the mill and I enjoyed it so far. The man currently filling in on the machine seems like he will be great to work with and he will be around for a month or so in transition time which is a rare opportunity when transferring jobs.

Pumpkin' Patchin'

My family came down yesterday and we went to the local pumpkin patch. They are not what they use to be, it was more like a circus than a pumpkin patch. My favorite halloween activity is going through the corn maze so we did that during the day when it was not haunted and then did Austin's favorite activity, ate frozen treats. It was a beautiful day and thanks to my dad's map reading skills we made it out of the maze in only an hour.

Good Bye "Parties"

The paper mill staff took us to dinner and gave me some incredible Beaver gear. The thought of four male engineers going shopping for me and getting me stuff that I love is pretty entertaining and amazing. They are all great friends at this point and know me very well. After so many all nighters together you can't help but be close. Kathleen made me a picture book that documents my time at the mill and some dots because I always eat her fruity candy. It was a good time, but VERY hard to say good bye to everyone.

On my last day of work I went to breakfast with some of the paper machine crew before work, had lunch with the salaried staff and then after work (which ended up being until 6:30 PM because of a machine crash) Alina had the HYE (Halsey "Young" employees) group over for dinner. Jefferson and his parent's came up as well to see us off.

AJ showing us all how to "take someone down" on Mercado. He is in the police academy right now and will be graduating as a Sheriff in mid-November.

Alina an (I mean THE) accountant at the mill and Emily a music teacher, Megan's good friend and she let's Mercado hang out with her too.

Krissy, who recently left the mill and Erica an HR manager. Erica is from NC and has given me some good tips on living in the South.

Darrin, a Broncos fan so he is great, Kirb and Austin just chillin' at the Ajir's.

Weekend of Weddings

This past weekend my best friend was married and we had a great time helping set things up and spending the day at the wedding. It was a georgous wedding and a lot of fun. Then we headed up to Portland and attended a wedding of our friends Noah and Sarah. We saw most of our college friends there and at breakfast before the wedding we said good bye to Maria and Gary. So it was an excellent way of seeing a lot of people before we left and we were glad to be apart of both weddings before we left.

Yvonne (The Bride), her hubby Toby (The Groom) with Austin and me at their reception.

Matt (Holters), Yvonne and me. We were ALWAYS together in high school, especially doing late night crime.

My sis, baby Holm in the belly, Eric, Austin and me at Yvonne and Toby's wedding.

Maria, who was my roommate my 4th year of college and her fiance Gary with us in Portland for breakfast. We get to go to Kuaui where Maria is from next August for their wedding, can't wait!

The Chem Engr college gang with the Bride, Sarah and groom Noah. Andy and Sarah introduced Clair to the group and Kirb and Meg dressed up Jefferson in a tux that matched his dad, adorable!

Austin holding Jeff, yes he looks great with a baby in hand and no we are not having any soon.
