Introducing Bronx

Brent's dog was delivered last night from the Coastal Pet Rescue Organization and he fits in perfectly. He followed Brent around all night and was very well behaved.

Bronx likes the present we brought him, his peanut-butter fire hydrant.

This is the most cuddly dog ever.

Chillin' on Brent's lap

Puppies Everywhere

We've been puppy hunting with Brent the past few weeks. So far the winner is Jered shown below with Brent. Jered is the name the rescue shelter gave him, he will get a new name tomorrow night when he gets to Brent's house but I thought that it was fitting for now. (Kristi, notice everyone wearing long sleeves? It was FREEZING here today. 25 degrees out this morning and only 45 so far as the high, we are setting record lows, brrrr).

Austin has had some time to get things caught up around the house. Work slowed down for his engineering firm and considering the other engineer in the office was the owner, he's been off since the beginning of the year. This week he de-brushed the portion of the back yard that had been hidden by the fence a year ago. Since only the evergreen trees have leaves the before and after aren't perfect, but it looks amazing back there and the dogs can easily take advantage of the full half acre now.
When we moved in a year ago...

Last May (the grass is green and the leaves are in full bloom at this point since it is May)

Now...

When the upper leaves on the trees fill in this Spring it will be beautiful back there. There was a LOT of little trees and brush to clean up so a person could walk back there, even the dogs had trouble getting around before.

IT Happened!

Last night we came home after the gym. I got into the shower to clean up before cooking dinner. I soaped up my hair, leaned back to wash it out and opened my eyes. What did I see? A palmetto bug (aka cock roach!) climbing out of the ceiling fan and climbing around the vent over my head. I am not a squeamish girl, I have no issues with the spider, lizards, etc that frequent the back porch and even the house from time to time, but a cockroach! That is beyond my comfort level.
We knew it would come one day, everyone else around here as them from time to time. It is part of the sacrifice to having 80 degree weather in January (yeah it was 80 degrees today, no coat in the morning when I went to work at 6 and it was 68 degrees). Just to clarify the average for this month is a high of 60 and low of 45, it is just a little warmer than normal this week and last.
So needless to say Austin called Terminix and they'll be here Thursday to re-spray including the attic since he'll be home. And I look up every time before I walk into that section of the bathroom.

Welcome 2009

To ring in the new year we met Brent and his friend's visiting from Idaho for dinner down town. Here's us toasting for the British New Year at 7 ECT (we were in a British restaurant).

Next to Kellie's for an intense round of Partini.

We chose to embrace our elderly side and leave early. We did stay up to watch the ball drop from our living room.
