The Zoo

Here are some pictures of the new pup settling in. Bo has warmed up to her and he wrestles with her for a couple hours every night. They will be perfect play mates when Daisy gets a few pounds on her. Life has been pretty crazy and busy lately. Austin has taken care of Daisy for the most part and I have been working constantly. It should be over in 2 weeks, so the blogs will be pretty weak, but here are a bunch of pictures which is what people like anyway (notice anyway is not plural (anyways), anyways is not a word and people using it is a pet peeve of Austin's. I am NOT allowed to say or write anyways, see I am not the only anal one in the family).

How to build a fence while watching a puppy? Tie puppy to your jean belt loop and work as normal. If it is her nap time hook her up to the hose. Have a husband who is a builder so he gets stuff done quickly, and the fence is up in no time.

Walking two dogs can be challenging. When one of the neighbor dogs would bark as we walked by Daisy would actually walk under Bo to be protected, it was very cute. No picture though.

Bo and Daisy enjoying a Tiger snack after dinner.

Daisy and her new best friend....

A good example of the wrestling Bo and Daisy do every night.

Put 'em up Bo....

Meet Daisy

Daisy is our 10 week old border collie and black lab mix. We brought her home from the humane society today. She will grown to be 30-50 lbs and be an excellent little sister for Bo.

We have been planning on getting Bo a friend to spend the days with for a couple weeks. In the past he has been a work dog and gone to the construction sites with Austin, but with Austin's new line of work there is not a lot Bo is capable of doing at the office. So he stays home about 12 hours a day Mon-Thur all by himself (well Rajah is there, but she doesn't like to play too much). Enter Daisy.

Here's a photo of me and her holding her pink bone.

Austin with his favorite girl, excluding me and Rajah.

Rajah and Daisy have had a rocky beginning. When we first brought Bo home Rajah stayed up stairs for weeks. There have been a lot of stand offs between the two and Daisy has had her share of swats across the nose courtesy of Rajah.
Here is a picture of Rajah just after a swat to Daisy's nose. She is fleeing from the scene. It is a little dark you might have to open the picture to see it well.

Bo and Daisy however are getting along great. Daisy was a little shy when we first brought her home. That is until we introduced her to Bo. She actually ran to him when she saw him, jumped up on him and hasn't left his side since. If Bo is parading around the house with a toy, she will do the same. If he is lying in the entry chewing a bone, so will Daisy. Here are some examples.

Bo will start to lose his patience with her soon I am sure, but he is doing well so far.
As you can see by the photos Bo is doing GREAT. We are lucky that we have a self healing dog. Tomorrow will be his first day off of pain medication so that might be a little rocky, but he has very little bleeding if any and is as active as every.

Bo is OKish...

So Josie (Austin's GPS) found us an animal hospital about 30 minutes away that was open and we got there around 8:30 last night.
When the Vet first started to evaluate Bo he tried to bite her and actually was snarling at her and limping toward her. She left and got a muzzle and continued. That is when we knew something was really wrong.

Skip this paragraph if you have a weak stomach and start reading below....Thank goodness we went that night because shortly after we got there a bunch of thick blood started pouring out of Bo where normally a yellow liquid would come out.

The Vet told us it is common that a dogs bladder burst when they get hit like that and they needed to take him back for an x-ray. We didn't get to go and she didn't really tell us what would happen they just rushed him off. So we sitting in the waiting room listening to him yelp and cry for about 20 min. Then he was quiet for about 5 min and the vet came and got us to look at the x-ray. She said the bladder and all tubing were in tact but he had internal bleeding from the trauma.

Long story not quit so long, he is healing (he used the restroom and ate today) and as long as he heals ok he will be fine. He is on antibiotics and pain killer and limps around if he walks.

Here is a picture of Bo tucked in last night when we got home. He didn't move for at least an hour (I went to bed after that). Sad, but very cute.

Here is a picture of Bo this afternoon feeling much more chipper. He is holding his tiger that he normally parades around the house holding in his mouth, but he is sitting enjoying his "kill."

Bo vs. the Motorcycle

Those of you who know Bo know that he has a deep hatred or love for motorcycles. He will chase any and all brands of motorcycles. Even pedal bikes sometimes. This bad habit that we have tried to break him of caught up with him tonight. He was out with Austin in the yard all day being a free range dog and behaving well. Until the neighbor two houses down road by on a motorcycle.

Bo began the chase the motorcycle down the road and preceded to cut the motorcycle off. He got his back legs clipped by the bike and tumbled down the road. The biker and bike were fine thankfully, but Bo is hurting.

We pushed every bone and organ we could to try and get a flinch or whimper out of him with no response. He is just lying on the floor. He will not eat and will not drink. The animal hospital is closed on Sunday nights (like EVERYTHING in the South). So we have to wait until tomorrow morning at 7 to take him in for a check up.

We were considering taking him to the vet anyway because on New Year's Eve while out for our evening walk (no golf cart included just leg power) I noticed a "thing" attached to Bo's ear. It was a tick. Austin removed it, and we got him treated for Tick's and fleas. He hasn't shown any signs of being sick so they say you don't have to bring him in. With the combination of getting gnawed on by a tick and run over by a motorcycle the poor guy needs a check up.

This will be another no sleep night in our house as we are both worried about Bo.

Golf Carts Gone Crazy

This topic could have been on the list of 10 things we learned about Georgia, but I thought it deserved it's own post.

I have come to understand that it is not only the fried chicken that gives the average southerner a little extra insulation. They also take their evening walks in golf carts. People of all ages (~10 to 100) drive around the neighborhoods in golf carts. They stop and chat with each other or people our doing yard work and just stroll around in their golf cart.

They even walk their dog out of the golf cart. I am not joking, they put their dog on a long leash they sit comfortably in the golf cart and cruise along at 5 MPH or so and let the dog get some exercise.

These golf carts are not used on golf courses, there sole purpose is for neighborhood transportation. It is crazy!

The neighbors went by walking their dog on a golf cart so I went out to take a picture but I was a little late and felt a little odd so I took a picture of the sky at sunset ~6:00 PM.

The Fence Phase 1

We are trying desperately to get the fence sealed off so that Bo can stay outside during the day and play around in the yard. After HOURS of looking at fences at multiple home improvement stores we finally have some on order and the fence posts in waiting for the panels to arrive. This is the first of 2 phases for the fence.

The wood fence in the back is ~30 feet in from our property line so all the trees you see in the background are on our lot. We and our neighbors who's fence we tie in with are planning on putting a fence at the back of the lot and then taking down the fence the builder installed 3o feet in. It is a pain to install the fence in the trees so that is why he installed the fence where he did but we want Bo to go play in the trees and to be able to enjoy them more ourselves. That will be the Fence Phase 2 blog which will be many months away.

I just got home from work, yes it is Sunday at ~3 in the afternoon but my machine has been running horribly. For those of you in the paper makin' business we had 9.5 hours of downtime yesterday without taking the sheet off. So I felt obligated to go in and help today. I changed out of my GP t-shirt and work jeans right after this photo I promise.

The left side of the house fence.

At the end of the day all of the fence post are in just waiting for the panels to arrive. Austin is pretty much amazing and building things. 2 of our neighbors commented on how quickly he got the fence post in.
