This is a long post with lots of picture. We have been making lists of all the things we need to do and trying to break it out by day to get them all done (i.e. insurance changes, doctors appts, blah, blah). Today the only thing on the list was celebrate Halloween, which we love to do.
First up, pumpkin carving and harvesting the seed to roast in our Salt and Vinegar recipe, yum.
And yes, when you are born on St. Patrick’s Day you wear St. Patrick’s day clothing all year round, even on Halloween.
Normally Zachary is not allowed to watch TV, but since it is Halloween he was allowed to watch The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. It is amazing how much kids can get glued to a cartoon.
Here is a picture of Austin and Z when they actually sat and watched the show together.
And here is Zachary excited about the football and pointing it out to us.
The finished pumpkins on display below. If I have to tell you which one is mine and which one is Austin’s then you don’t know us! Mine took about 5 minutes with a cookie cutter and 1/2 inch drill bit, Austin’s was done completely free hand, this year he went for a scary one, it’s not my favorite, it looks gross rather than scary. I think this is the first year ever that Austin’s pumpkin was not my favorite.
After pumpkin carving it was nap time and bath time.
Jeremiah put on his Tigger towel costume after his bath to practice for the evening festivities.
In the evening, our friends Lauren and Walter joined us for trick or treating with their two children Erin and Wyatt. Trick or treating is from 6-9 (yes, our county regulates this activity and everyone follows it, even when it was changed to the 30th instead of 31st one year, everyone obeys the rules), we set out around 6:15 just after the festivities began so we could get home to hand out candy ourselves and get the kids to bed at a decent time.
These two were adorable together, but did not pose well for the camera. They were both a little confused about the entire process and Zachary was really entertained by all the glow sticks.
I am not sure how he knows to do this with a sucker, it must just be built in to children, he has never had candy before, yet he grabbed the sucker and went to town, wrapper and all.
We returned home from trick or treating just after dark. We line our driveway with luminaries and the pumpkins at the end, it is hard to get a good picture, it looks much more impressive in real life.
This year we had to deal with the constant battle of keeping Zachary away from the luminaries. He loves being outside and was completely energetic the entire time, even without the sugar rush.
It was a little chilly so we also lit a fire while we sat outside handing out candy. Remember, in the South the proper way to hand out Halloween candy is to sit out on the porch or driveway and people walk up, there isn’t doorbell ringing. It is must more interactive and fun but the puppies don’t get to say hello to everyone so they don’t like it as much.
Cutest giraffe ever.
The foam wand in his hand is a glow stick that is in a foam material. It is a fantastic idea, he can’t chew on it like he does with the other glow sticks and they are huge to lite up the wagon great. We also throw glow sticks into the pumpkin bucket to light them up with a glow.
Waving bye to the camera, which means it’s almost bed time for Z.
Warming by the camp fire.
And that ends our Halloween, tomorrow we will bust out the Egg Nog and Christmas music.
