Go Broncos! Atlanta Visit

We went to Atlanta last weekend to enjoy the Bronco's defeating the Falcon's in professional football. We stayed in downtown Atlanta at the Hyatt for a vacation package thing we had. Be prepared...we did a lot and this post is long.

We started the weekend with dinner at PF Chang's in Atlanta. Neither of us had eaten at PF Chang's until ~6 months before we left Eugene one opened. We got hooked just in time to move to a place that does not have one. Thanks to Mick for the new (retro) Denver shirt, it came UPS as we were packing the car Friday afternoon.

We spent Saturday at Stone Mountain Park which is the world's largest piece of granite. It is located at the edge of Atlanta (~30 min from down town). I would describe it as a beautiful National Park combined with Enchanted Forest.

I admit to being a dorky engineer who has a volumetric flask as a pitcher in her cupboards. Turns out Austin's dorky engineer side comes out at sediment deterioration exhibits. He read and studied everything on the stone, I was BORED!

Me "climbing" the stone.
Downtown Atlanta in the back ground.

Austin at the top, ~1 mile and 800' from where we started. The top is ~1700' up (we started at 900').

The largest rock carving (take that Kirb' and Meg, bigger than Mt. Rushmore). Jefferson Davis, Robert Lee and Stonewall Jackson

Remember, this place has a little Enchanted Forest in it, part theme park, part National Park. At the Snow Angel meet and greet they had decorate your own cookie activity. How could we resist? Yeah, this is me decorating a cookie at the 18" off the ground kiddie table set up for cookie decorating. Totally worth it, they were good cookies.

Me and Santa.

There is a large old plantation within the park. This is a picture of the main house. We toured through all the structures on the grounds, it was very interesting.
At the farm portion of the house they have put in a petting zoo, at the exit there is this traditional 1840 wash basin, with automatic off/on. We thought it was funny.

Fresh Georgia grown cotton, we just picked from the bush.

At the old quarry portion of the park Austin standing with a 33 ton piece of granite

The old quarry.

The old mill.

In the Crossroads Village (Enchanted Village Portion) they do Christmas similarly to the Griswalds. Crazy how many lights were at this place.

We finished the night watching the laser light show on the side of Stone Mountain.

Sunday morning we went to the World of Coca Cola museum (Coke was developed in Atlanta and the head quarters are there).

They have a small SLOW bottling facility. I originally wanted to do soda manufacturing when I got out of school, but somehow I got distracted with toilet paper.

Ahh Puffy. It was actually really cold in Atlanta this weekend. So Austin was justified in wearing puffy, it was not just a fashion statement as it usually is for him.

Apparently Coke sponsors (and possibly started) the Olympic torch run. They have all the old Olympic torches (or very good replicas that have been lit) on display at the museum. Beijing is already in here (top right).

The Broncos scored on this play!

The last play of the game (all the Falcon's fans had cleared out).

The GP center (the logo on the top is big in real life). It is the brown building in the center with the blue GP triangle on top.

Austin hugging the large Christmas tree in Centennial Olympic Park.

Woo hoo! We were wondering if you were at that game. I seriously kept my eyes open thinking I just might see you when the cameras go to the fans. :) Looks like another fun weekend, and looks like your birthday was a fun one too!

Atlanta is one of my favorite places! I thought the Coke museum was very cool too.
